Under a Blue Moon by Bru Baker Blog Tour

Under a Blue Moon by Bru Baker Blog Tour

Thanks for joining me here today on Christina’s Bookshelf to talk about Under a Blue Moon, book 2 in the Camp H.O.W.L. series.

I’m having a blast promoting it, because the Camp H.O.W.L. series is so much fun to write. I’ve always had an interest in reading paranormal romance and urban fantasy, but I never thought I’d write a werewolf series. To be honest, the world building always seemed so daunting.

When I got the idea to set a werewolf camp deep in the Hoosier National Forest, I had the chance to create my own werewolf mythology. Pretty much everyone we met in the first book was a werewolf. But even though they’re hidden, werewolves aren’t insular. They live among humans and have to find a way to fit in–that’s pretty much the entire purpose of Camp H.O.W.L. Without that training, new wolflings would probably be all over social media flashing fang!

Dealing with a human who’s in the know was a whole different challenge, which is why I loved writing Drew so much. He grew up in a Pack, since his mother married into one when he was young. He’s always known his human limitations, but he’s never viewed himself as less capable. There are, of course, times he’s not going to be able to keep up. I’ve got an excerpt up on Love Bytes today that’s the perfect example of that. Turns out a human isn’t great a werewolf parkour–go figure.

In Under a Blue Moon, Nick and Drew have obstacles to their happy ending because of Drew’s humanity. Nick worries that part of himself would always be inaccessible to Drew since Drew doesn’t know what it’s like to have an inner wolf. It was a fun twist on the usual trope of the human being afraid of the Were–here, Nick’s afraid of a relationship with the human because he feels like they’re too different to be able to really communicate.

Even though Drew might not be able to hold his own in a werewolf parkour class, he’s more than up to the challenge of convincing a stubborn werewolf that he’s being short-sighted. Drew may be one of the most badass people at Camp H.O.W.L., and he’s entirely human. It just goes to show that even if you lack an inner wolf, it doesn’t mean you don’t have an inner fire.

Blurb:

Once in a blue moon, opposites find they’re a perfect match.

Nick Perry is tired of helping people with their marriages, so when a spot opens up to work with teens at Camp H.O.W.L., he jumps at it. He doesn’t expect to fall in lust with the dreamy new camp doctor, Drew Welch. But Drew is human, and Nick has seen secrets ruin too many relationships to think that a human/werewolf romance can go anywhere.

Happy-go-lucky Drew may not sprout claws, but he’s been part of the Were community all his life. He has no trouble fitting in at the camp—except for Nick’s stubborn refusal to acknowledge the growing attraction between them, and his ridiculous stance on dating humans. Fate intervenes when one of Drew’s private practice patients threatens his life. Will the close call help Nick to see a connection like theirs isn’t something to let go of?

It’s not common knowledge, but the CMRD holds final exams for each of its residents and if they don’t pass, they’re euthanized. So when James returns to the CMRD to fulfill the rest of his contract, he finds himself assisting five young adults, confronting the demons of his past, and attempting to protect his new class from a possible death sentence.

James discovers that his class isn’t bringing in enough sponsors; the agencies and world governments who supply grants and ultimately purchase graduates of the CMRD, and that means no profit for the facility. Now, James and his students face impossible odds. Measure up to the facility’s unreachable standards or escape.

At the CMRD, you have to be able to control your Magic or Die.

Meet the Author

J.P. Jackson works as an IT analyst in health care during the day, where if cornered he’d confess to casting spells to ensure clinicians actually use the electronic medical charting system he configures and implements.

At night however, the writing happens, where demons, witches and shape shifters congregate around the kitchen table and general chaos ensues. The insurance company refuses to accept any more claims of ‘acts of the un-god’, and his husband of almost 20 years has very firmly put his foot down on any further wraith summoning’s in the basement. And apparently imps aren’t house-trainable. Occasionally the odd ghost or member of the Fae community stops in for a glass of wine and stories are exchanged. Although the husband doesn’t know it, the two Chihuahuas are in cahoots with the spell casting.

J.P.’s other hobbies include hybridizing African Violets (thanks to grandma), extensive travelling and believe it or not, knitting.
